Lake City breaks 4 school marks

LEWISTON - Kierstie Shellman (11 feet, 7 inches in the girls pole vault), Zack Linscott (6-6 in the boys high jump), Jared Dibble (13-4 in the boys pole vault) and Kasey Widmyer (34-6 in the girls triple jump) set school records for Lake City on the first day of the 5A Region 1 meet Thursday at Vollmer Bowl.
"Overall, our kids had a great day, both on the track and in the field," Lake City coach Kelly Reed said. "Anytime you can break four records in a couple of hours, it's an awesome day."
Brittany Pope (high jump) also won for Lake City, which leads the girls meet. Coeur d'Alene is second, Post Falls third and Lewiston fourth.
Kara Story (3,200), Madison Seaman (discus) and Makenzie Baker (long jump) of Coeur d'Alene had wins, and the Vikings' 4x800 relay team of Josie Brown, Madison Sumner, Jaycee Rade and Krista Story also triumphed.
In the boys meet, Post Falls' Austin Funk won the discus and teammate Steven Beck captured the pole vault. Cody Curtis of Coeur d'Alene won the 3,200.
Lewiston leads the boys team standings, with Coeur d'Alene second, Lake City third and Post Falls fourth.
The top three individuals and winning relays advance to the state 5A meet May 18-19 at Rocky Mountain High in Meridian.
In the 4A meet, Lakeland's Charles Johnson won the boys long jump and Jordan Ward won the girls high jump. The top two individuals and winning relays advance to the state 4A meet May 18-19 at Middleton High.
Moscow leads the boys and Sandpoint the girls team standings after the first day.
Two field events ran late, and results were unavailable Thursday night.
Both meets conclude today.
