Toys of interest for every age are offered at Shenanigan's Toy Emporium opening this week at 312 Sherman Ave. The 1,200-square-foot store was toyed with for the last few years as Figpickels, which has moved to the Plaza Shops a block west.

Also offering sweets, this historic Shenanigan's building has an especially beautiful copper-plated high ceiling and brick walls. Manager Diane Cina describes it as a "nostalgic toy store." She and owner Paul Cahill come from Bend, Ore.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and extending later on weekends.

Treasures & Pleasures on Government Way

Owner Deborah Sandlie calls her higher-end thrift shop "a little hole in the wall with a little something for everyone." The store Treasures & Pleasures is in the middle of an east-west mini mall at 3655 Government Way. The 1,560-square-foot place formerly was a candy store and is across the street from Rockin' Robin Cafe, which closed last week.

Items include clothes, furniture, artwork, jewelry, toys and even slot machines. Some items are on consignment. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone 699-9372.

Items, classes at Knit-n-Crochet

Anything anyone would ever want for knitting, crocheting and tatting (knotting threads into items such as doilies) are offered at Knit-n-Crochet at 600 W. Kathleen Ave. The 1,500-square-foot shop is where Harmony Yarn Studio formerly was in Bear Paw Plaza on the north side of Fred Meyer.

Owner Hilda Beukelman also offers classes and group work in all the specialties. Originally from Escalon, Calif., she came to North Idaho in 2008 to live her "life-long dream" after discovering the area in 1987. With three employees, the store also sells clothes made there.

Ulta coming into Border's space

A cosmetic and fragrance store called Ulta will move into the 15,000-square-foot space that was formerly Border's (books) along Highway 95.

Extensively remodeling and opening in August, Ulta sells makeup, gifts and items for haircare and skincare. The company has about 450 stores in 43 states.

Target to expand in groceries

Watch for a major remodel at the Cd'A Target store as half the place will become a major grocery store. It will include fresh produce, a butcher area and expanded lines of all grocery products. The project begins in July and will be complete in October.
