University of Idaho senior football player Ken McRoyal was killed early Sunday morning in California. Details of his death were not available.
McRoyal joined the Vandals last fall as a walkon receiver after transferring from El Camino Junior College. He had earned a scholarship for the coming school year.
"It's a devastating loss," Idaho football coach Robb Akey said. "We've lost a brother, a teammate, a family member. But, more importantly, a momma lost her son today."
"All of our prayers go to the family - that they can be strong in their healing from this tragedy."
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Kenny," Idaho athletic director Rob Spear said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."
McRoyal caught six passes for 35 yards in eight games during the 2011 season. He was a native of New Orleans and moved with his family to California after the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
