COEUR d'ALENE - RecallCdA said Monday it has about 3,700 petition signatures seeking the ouster of four Coeur d'Alene officials.
The group needs 4,311 valid signatures from registered Coeur d'Alene voters to issue a recall election against Mayor Sandi Bloem and council members Mike Kennedy, Deanna Goodlander and Woody McEvers - all of whom supported moving forward with the McEuen Field redevelopment project.
Recall supporters estimated online that they had collected around 3,700 signatures, and organizer Frank Orzell confirmed that tally with The Press.
"That sounds about right," he said of the figure, which would be around 86 percent of the minimum required, should all the signatures turn out to be valid.
"There's not much I can do," McEvers said in reaction to the latest estimate. "I feel like we're doing the best we can, but they don't."
He said he's not paying attention to signature estimates, preferring to "lay low" as the 75-day collecting and certifying window draws to a close. The Kootenai County Clerk's Office has said it would like the petitions no later than June 11 so it can begin the certification process. The four certified petitions must be submitted to the city clerk no later than 5 p.m. June 19.
"It will be what it will be. If they get it, they get it," McEvers said. "What are you going to do? It's not like we can run a campaign against it ... We can't say anything back, because then we're rude."
