Chamberlain ends on a high note

During the first set of Thursday's State B-C tennis tournament title match it seemed to be business as usual for Superior-Alberton's Cary Chamberlain.

The senior had no problem putting away Katie Diemert of Chinook 6-2 and looked as though she would be quickly claiming the title.

However Diemert proved that there was a reason she was competing for the title as well in the second set of the match. Chamberlain lost her serve and struggled during several long rally's. Quickly she was down 5-0.

In the sixth game of the set Chamberlain began wrestling the momentum back to her favor. Grinding out rally's and winning hard fought points to get the game. There was even more back and forth in the seventh game but Chamberlain won that one as well.

"I've been behind in sets before and come back to win," Chamberlain said. "So I thought still had a chance at winning it in the second."

Diemert thought otherwise and soon enough it was down to a deciding third set.

After coming so close, two semi-final loses in two years, Chamberlain refused to let it happen again. She got her serve back and with it all of the momentum.

Chamberlain won the final set of her high school career 6-2, and with it the title. The usually stoic and focused senior jumped for joy and was swamped by family and friends.
