New venue - same goals for the Coeur d'Alene girls track team, which finished second last year at the state 5A meet.

Due to renovations at Bronco Stadium in Boise, the state championships in track and field have been moved to five different locations.

Meets in all five classifications begin today and conclude on Saturday.

"It's disappointing," Coeur d'Alene coach Linda Lanker said. "But we're really trying to pump the kids up. It's still a state meet and a huge opportunity. We have a lot of younger kids that haven't been there, so that won't affect them."

Seniors Morgan Struble (300 hurdles) and Maddy Seaman (shot put/discus), as well as the girls 4x400 relay team enter as top seeds.

Struble won the 300 hurdles last year and Seaman was second in the discus.

"With our girls, we've already broken the state record in the 4x400 relay - now we've just got to do it again at the meet," Lanker said. "But it was huge for the girls to run that kind of time at regionals."

Addison Johnson (100/200/relays), Carlos Martinez (100/200/relays) and Cody Curtis and Michael Dunton (3,200/1,600) are title hopefuls for the Viking boys, which finished fourth last year.

Rocky Mountain won the boys and Mountain View won the girls championships last year.

"In the girls, we're going against Mountain View," Lanker said. "They have so many sprinters, as well as the fact they've got a huge school. What I'm counting on is Lake City knocking them out. They're doing such a good job with their sprinters."

Lake City junior Leanne Asper is seeded third in the 200 and 800, and the Timberwolves qualified all four relays - 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800. Lake City posted the top qualifying time in the 4x200 relay at 1:42.80.

"The potential is certainly there," Lake City coach Kelly Reed said. "We still need to get the baton around the track - but the potential to be on the awards stand is high, and we're pretty excited about that."

Reed added the school's 4x200 seeding time of 1:42.80 would also be the top mark in Washington.

Brittany Pope is seeded third in the high jump and Kasey Widmyer fourth in the triple jump for Lake City, which finished seventh last year.

Kierstie Shellman, who finished second in the pole vault as a sophomore and third as a junior, is seeded second in the pole vault.

Nick Gosselin is ranked second in the 400 after finishing eighth in the event last year and Kaleb Mitchell sixth in the 300 hurdles for the Lake City boys, which finished eighth last year.

“We could have some state champions, but there’s some chance and luck involved — but I think there are a few that could medal or win a state title,” Reed said.

Bret Davide (100, 400, 4x200 relay) and Austin Funk are also seeded for the Post Falls boys, which finished 15th last year. Tori Bertsch is seeded third in the high jump and Wednesday Walton fifth in the 100 hurdles for the Post Falls girls, which finished 15th last year.

4A: Jordan Ward is the top seed in the girls high jump after winning the state title last year. Ward also qualified in the 200 and 100 hurdles and Aimee Crowe qualified in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 for Lakeland’s girls, which finished seventh last year at state.

This year’s meet is at Middleton High.

Jerome won the girls and Rigby boys won titles last year.

3A: The Timberlake girls, which won the state championship last year, have five competitors seeded No. 1 in various events starting today at Eagle High.

Sam Simmons (pole vault) and Rachel Ward (300 hurdles), as well as Taylor Mason (high jump) and relay teams in the 4x100 and 4x400 are ranked at the top of their class.

“We will have to have a great couple days to win the title,” Timberlake coach Brian Kluss said. “We should be in good position for a trophy and contend for the championship. Our top kids have to perform to the best of their ability in order for us to win. In my opinion, this is the way it should be. It should be a fun weekend.”

Brian Cronnelly is seeded third in the high jump for the Timberlake boys, which finished sixth last year.

Buhl won the boys title last year.

2A: David Conway qualified in three events and Jacob LaBenne two for Coeur d’Alene Charter, which finished eighth last year.

This year’s meet is at Centennial High in Boise.

Katie Johnson qualified in the jumps for the Coeur d’Alene Charter girls, which finished 19th.

Nampa Christian won the girls title and West Side won the boys title last year.

1A: Kootenai’s Olivia Kincheloe, Katey Mae McInturff and Ellison Schultz are seeded 3-4-5 in the girls pole vault. Kootenai finished 18th last year. Shannon Miller of Lakeside qualified in the shot put and discus.

Brandon Carman is the top seed in the 300 hurdles and Graydon Myhre the top seed in the pole vault for the Kootenai boys, which finished sixth last year.

Jonathan Daman (3,200) and Jeremy Stivers (long jump) qualified for Lakeside.

This year’s meet is at Mountain View High in Meridian.

Mackay won the girls title and Challis won the boys title last year.
