MOSES LAKE - Aircraft Rescue Firefighting personnel responded to a single engine airplane fire on the runway of the Grant County International Airport.

On Tuesday at about 8:15 p.m., fire crews were dispatched to a report of a private plane that had landed on the runway and had smoke coming out of the dash, according to Fire Captain Bryan Gwinnup.

Grant County Fire District 5 assisted in extinguishing the fire, which burned the engine compartment and the cockpit, Gwinnup said.   The pilot was the only person on board at the time and he reportedly escaped without injury.

Gwinnup said this is the first such fire he's seen in his five years with the Aircraft Rescue Firefighting service.
