Slumping Carlos Pena hit a three-run homer during a five-run fourth inning and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-5 on Tuesday night in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Orioles 4, Red Sox 1: Brian Matusz allowed two hits and both Steve Tolleson and Wilson Betemit hit two-run homers as Baltimore beat visiting Boston.

Indians 5, Tigers 3: Chris Perez worked the ninth inning for his 14th save as Cleveland snapped a 10-game losing streak to visiting Detroit.

Yankees 3, Royals 2: Phil Hughes gave up five hits in six innings as New York beat visiting Kansas City.

Twins 9, White Sox 2: P.J. Walters tossed his first career complete game and Justin Morneau hit a three-run homer as visiting Minnesota beat Chicago.

Angels 4, Athletics 0: C.J. Wilson and Ernesto Frieri combined on a one-hitter and Albert Pujols homered for the third time in seven days as Los Angeles won at Oakland.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Mets 3, Pirates 1: Lucas Duda smacked a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the eighth as New York rallied at Pittsburgh.

Nationals 5, Phillies 2: Ian Desmond and Rick Ankiel homered to lead Washington at Philadelphia.

Reds 4, Braves 3: Brandon Phillips homered twice and Cincinnati beat visiting Atlanta.

Marlins 7, Rockies 6: Ricky Nolasco set a franchise record for career wins with 69 as Miami beat visiting Colorado.

Astros 2, Cubs 1: J.D. Martinez hit the go-ahead RBI single in the sixth inning as Houston beat visiting Chicago.

Giants 6, Brewers 4: Buster Posey homered and had three RBIs as San Francisco won at Milwaukee.

Cardinals 4, Padres 0: Adam Wainwright tossed a four-hitter as St. Louis beat visiting San Diego.

Dodgers 8, Diamondbacks 7: At Phoenix, Ivan DeJesus hit a two-run double with two outs in the ninth inning as visiting Los Angeles rallied to beat Arizona.
