NIC Athletics presents 'Biggest' cupcake decorating event

These aren't your mom's cupcakes.

North Idaho College is riding the national cupcake wave with help from Charm City Cupcakes - a Baltimore-based gourmet cupcake company, which has agreed to host America's Biggest Cupcake Decorating Event as a fundraiser for the Athletics Department Saturday, May 26 at the Best Western Coeur d'Alene Inn.

"Their entertaining cupcake workshops have attracted large audiences around the eastern region and it's their first time bringing their show out West," said Al Williams, NIC Athletics director. "It's a lot of fun, you learn some skills, and the cupcakes you take home are delicious."

Charm City Cupcakes will have its renowned gourmet pastry chefs teach three different workshops throughout the day Saturday. Students will learn how to color frostings as well as proper piping, filling techniques and more.

Charm City Cupcake owner Sandra Long said this is not only the company's first foray out West, but also its first fundraiser.

"We've known Al Williams for quite a while and that gave us this opportunity to combine athletics fundraising with the cupcake craze," Long said. "The decorating classes are very successful. People love them. These workshops are a chance for families, friends and the community to have fun while supporting NIC athletics."
