Wind, rain in holiday forecast

COEUR d'ALENE - You won't need sunscreen this holiday weekend.
But hey, that's how so many Memorial Day weekends in North Idaho go.
"It's not uncommon," meteorologist Randy Mann said of 60 degree temperatures accompanied by showers in late May - which happens to be the outlook for this three-day weekend. "Next week, it's looking a lot warmer."
Until then, it'll be more of the same, with temps in the low to mid-60s. Today will have gusts of wind, and Sunday has a good chance of showers. It should be mostly dry other than that, while Memorial Day itself will be partly sunny and 64 degrees - good enough weather to do most any of the holiday traditions you please, except perhaps lake swimming.
"I'm fine with it," said local resident James Jensen, doing outdoor work Thursday and unfazed by the mediocre weather outlook. "As long as it's not pouring rain like it was Monday and Tuesday."
It shouldn't.
"I prefer hot weather," said resident Jace Pack, who despite his love for heat wasn't worked up over the holiday weather report. "Maybe next month it should be hot enough to go swimming."
Maybe.
Next week, according to Mann, it should heat up with temperatures in the 70s. The mercury should climb after that.
"It's looking a lot warmer and a lot drier," Mann said of the long-range forecast. "In fact, we might need the air conditioning 10 days out."
