Holmes uses kilns in his backyard for firing the ceramics at 2,000 degrees. Once the pieces are done firing, they are submerged into a trashcan full of sawdust. The smoke and the fire react to the glaze, causing the western raku effect.

Evergreen junior high school principal, Kim Anderson, falls into a dunk tank after eighth grader Rosie Tozer hits the bulls-eye on Friday, May 25. Anderson awarded any student who showed accurate growth in math, or any other subject, a chance at dunking her, giving Evergreen students 451 attempts.
