DUMPED: Pets can't fend for themselves

“Dumping” a domesticated pet is wrong on so many levels. Contrary to anyone’s belief, a domesticated cat or dog cannot survive on its own. These animals either end up as a coyote’s dinner or on someone else’s doorstep looking for warmth, food and a safe place after being discarded like a piece of trash.

Discarding an animal is a common occurrence in our area and so unacceptable. I understand more and more people are financially unable to care for their pet(s) but dumping them like trash is not the answer. It may take some work on your part but take the time to ask around, call vet clinics, put ads in the paper, do the “right” thing and re-home your pet(s).

The latest episode to prompt my letter is on Monday or Tuesday of the week of May 21 two sweet, beautiful adult female cats (one long hair solid black, the other short gray hair with a white spot on her forehead) were found discarded under a tree on Wyoming off Huetter. Thank goodness a kind person was cutting across the prairie on that particular road and saw them huddled together at the base of the tree. The “girls” were more than happy to jump into the car and be taken someplace safe, a much better fate than becoming a coyote’s dinner which is what they would have been that evening. To the person(s) responsible “shame, shame on you!”
