Joe Mather

Chicago Cubs

Mather, who was born in Sandpoint and grew up in Coeur d'Alene, went 2 for 3 with two doubles for the Cubs (17-32) in a 5-3 win over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday at Wrigley Field. He has appeared in 33 games this season and is batting .278 (20 for 72) with six doubles and eight RBIs.

Jared Griffard

Griffard, a senior from Coeur d'Alene High, was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 2 men's at-large first team. He earned the first academic all-district honor with a 3.89 cumulative grade-point average as a pre-med major for the Division II Golden Knights of Erie, Pa. A Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference scholar-athlete each year, he qualified for the 2012 PSAC Swimming Championships in the 400-yard individual medley, the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke.

Shea Vucinich

Vucinich, from Coeur d'Alene High and Washington State, has 12 hits in the last 10 games for the long-season class A Manatees (21-29) of Viera, Fla., to raise his batting average to .248 on the season with 15 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Kaleb DeHaas

Northwest Nazarene baseball

DeHaas, a freshman from Coeur d'Alene High, was named honorable mention on the Great Northwest Athletic Conference team after the Crusaders finished 27-22. DeHaas was fourth on the team in hitting with a .317 average in 45 starts, with 39 hits and 21 walks.

John Murray

Lewis-Clark State track and field

Murray, a freshman from Coeur d'Alene High, threw a school-record 168 feet, 7 inches in the hammer at the NAIA Track and Field Championships in Marion, Ind., last Thursday. The throw, his first of the event, topped the record he set earlier this year.

Jessica Ross

Whitworth softball

Ross, a sophomore from Lake City High and North Idaho College, was sixth on the Pirates (19-21) in hitting this season, finishing with a .268 average in 33 games. She also had a team-high six triples and drove in 21 runs.
