Chiropractic has a simple philosophy that can enhance your life and make you a happier, healthier person. Many people do not understand the purpose of chiropractic and how it can benefit even the youngest of patients. That's right; kids (and babies) can derive great benefit from chiropractic care for the same reasons that adults see such amazing changes to their health. The truth of the matter is that chiropractic is a tool to help your body do what it already does every day; keep your body healthy and functioning properly.

Chiropractic care helps restore nervous system function by seeking out subluxations in the spine. As you may already know, your spine is made up of 24 bones that house your spinal cord. You spinal cord is the bridge from your brain to the rest of the nerves that run to every cell, tissue and organ in your body. A subluxation happens when one of your 24 spinal bones move out of place due to such things as stress, trauma, physical exertion, etc.

A subluxation is a serious issue that results in pressure being placed on the nerves that exit between the bones of your spine. It may not be painful or even noticeable, but it can create long-term problems and cause degeneration within the bones of the spine. If left untreated, the subluxation may lead to great pain and will eventually create more serious health issues.

Imagine a garden hose. If you have a garden hose hooked up to a sprinkler in your yard and you stand on the hose, you will find that the water flow decreases to the sprinkler. When you step off, the flow of water is restored without restriction and the sprinkler is once again operating at its full potential.

This same thing may be happening within your nervous system as you read this article.

For this reason, it is important that subluxations are eliminated before they have a chance to do damage. We all have a spine, and these problems can begin from birth. If you have ever watched a baby being born, you might realize how much exertion is placed on the head and particularly the neck during the process. A baby can very well be subluxated from the birth process alone. This can lead to immediate health issues and hamper proper development.

While children are more resilient to these issues than adults, they are not resistant to them entirely. Eliminating subluxations in the spine before they have a chance to cause degeneration will allow a child's body to stop a potential problem before it starts. Most adults seek chiropractic care only after a problem becomes noticeable. At that point in time the damage has already occurred and we must play catch-up to restore proper nervous system function. If the degeneration is too severe, it will not be correctable.

And remember, chiropractic care is a tool to help your body stay healthy and functioning at its full potential. There is no age restriction on subluxations and the best defense is a good offense.

Chiropractic goes beyond pain

Our bodies are amazing. Think about that statement. As you do, also think about the fact that you probably took a breath, blinked your eyes, moved a limb, moved your head, focused your eyes, digested food, healed a cut, wiggled a toe, salivated and a million other internal operations. Although you were not readily thinking about all of these processes, they were going on without the need for your input. Your brain, while also supplying you with conscious thought, is simultaneously orchestrating a laundry list of functions to keep you alive and well.
