Michael (Mike) Krapfl, 69

Michael (Mike) Krapfl, 69, residing in Fernan Village, died May 25, 2012; born in St. Charles, Mo. Mike and his four siblings grew up primarily in the Midwest and Southern states, moving often due to his father’s job with General Electric. After graduating from New Berlin High School in Illinois, Mike attended the University of Missouri (Columbia) before entering the military and serving as a Special Forces (Army) Medic during the early 1960s, part of that time being served in Vietnam.
Mike married the love of his life, Kathy (Horvath) on May 1, 1970, in St. Louis, Mo. They moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1975. Mike found his mecca in hunting and the great outdoors. During Mike’s professional career as a Financial Services Consultant, he worked for Smith Barney; retiring in January 2008. Mike also served as one of the Kootenai County Fire Commissioners for 11 years. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.
Mike is survived by his wife of 42 years; son Jason and April; granddaughters, Mackenzie and Brianna of Coeur d’Alene; son John C. of Coeur d’Alene; brother John and Monika of Hayden; sister Patricia and Scott MacLeod of San Francisco, Calif.; brother Larry and Connie of Kirkwood, Mo.; brother Steve and De of St. Louis; nephews, Patrick (Julie), Bradley (Jeni), Andrew, Matthew, Sean and Ryan; niece Kathleen and grand-nephew Michael.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick Bradley Krapfl and Lorraine 0’Donough Krapfl. His family will greatly miss him.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene.
Donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Mike’s favorite charity organization; or to Hospice of North Idaho.
