Jean A. Gardner, 84

Jean A. Gardner, 84, passed in peace and comfort Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene with family by her side. Jean died of complications from multiple fractures of the hip and pelvis due to a fall at her home.
Born Jean Amelia Miller on Feb. 22, 1928, in Spearfish, S.D., to John and Jesse Miller. Jean grew up on the family homestead and helped run the home and kitchen with her mother. Jean first attended Beaver Creek and Crow Peak country schools. She then attended Spearfish schools from grades seven until 12 where Jean graduated from Spearfish High School in 1945. Jean participated in girls’ athletics, the Homemaking Club and was on the staff of “The Lookout,” the school newspaper.
Jean moved to Spokane in 1945 or 1946 where she lived for 10 years where she held various secretarial, bookkeeping and administrative positions while working at Culligan water and the Eagles among others.
She married Daniel George Gardner on Nov. 23, 1958, and moved to Coeur d’Alene where she raised her two sons, Kirk Daniel Gardner born in 1961 and Scott John Gardner born in 1968.
Jean and Dan owned and operated Inland Marine, a full service marina, from 1958 until 1988 in Coeur d’Alene. Jean was also an active member of the Coeur d’Alene community where she volunteered with 3Cs and the Kootenai Medical Center Auxiliary.
Jean enjoyed traveling, gardening, camping, golfing, bowling and boating. She adored her granddaughters and spent time with them whenever possible. Her family was the light of her life.
She is survived by her son, Scott (Valley) Gardner of Coeur d’Alene; granddaughters, Taija Rae Gardner of Spokane and Kianna Camille Gardner of Spokane; sister June Cardinal of Salem, Ore.; and her brother, Dick (Jean) Miller of Spearfish. She was preceded in death by her parents and oldest son, Kirk Gardner.
A memorial service and remembrance will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. Fourth St. Coeur d’Alene. A reception and time of fellowship will be held immediately following the service at Bistro on Spruce, 1710 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene.
