TRICK OR TREAT
I pulled up the shade
What's a sight to behold
Colors are red, yellow and gold.
Autumn is here,
Another season arrives
Pumpkins and scarecrows,
Parents, costumes, door bell rings
Candy and kids
trick or a treat
Sign of a new year
about to unfold, In
with the new, out with the old.
- Virginia Burnet, Coeur d'Alene

THE WITCH
The Moon was full, the wind blew cold,
Orange Jack-O-Lanterns, faces gold.
Smiling, waiting, patiently,
Sat on my window for all to see.
There cam a tap upon my door.
Slowly I crept across the floor.
So late at night, who could it be?
Was it the Witch, Garryanthropy?
On foot, it's said, into your room,
Would forever seal your doom.
Yet I was curious, you see.
Was it a witch come to visit me?
The tapping once again I heard.
I tried, but couldn't say a word.
What I did I should not have done.
I opened the door, just for fun.
I only cracked it just so far,
But you know how those witches are.
She scurried in and to a chair,
And curled upon a pillow there.
I knew my fate was sealed for sure,
As I stroked her head and heard he purr.
- Marvin Tyacke, Post Falls

POET'S HEART
She is justified by
Her political fears,
She is a poet of
Nine and twenty years
She is a writer
With an insightful hand,
To her, the world is
On a grandstand
Seldom do her
Words hurt anyone.
She is only looking
Out for number one.
She hopes to publish
But she does not care,
She is a writer of scorn
With an arrogant air.
- Keith Sargent, Mullan

THE PERFECT WIFE
What would you have me do, my dear?
What would you have me do?
Would you like for me to sing or dance?
Or drink a toast to you?
What would you have me say, my dear?
What would you have me say?
Should I smile this way or that?
Or look the other way?
What would you have me wear, my dear?
Just how should I look today?
Who do you want me to impress?
What game do you want me to play?
Where would you have me gaze ,my dear?
What would you have me see?
Just how can I please you, my dear?
Other than not being me?
- Sara Lowery, Hayden
