A tribute to a great volunteer, Jack Gleason
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 13 years, 10 months AGO
The Habitat for Humanity of North Idaho ReStore staff would like to recognize a very special volunteer, Jack Gleason. Jack started volunteering in the ReStore in August 2011.
"He began volunteering with us because he felt he had been so blessed," said Katrina Boyer, volunteer coordinator. "He wanted to find some way to give back to his community and he did just that at the store. Everyone looked forward to his shift on Monday mornings. Jack was always upbeat and positive. He was a wonderful addition to our staff as he cheerfully served customers and kept the store stocked and organized."
This past August, Jack had a recurrence of cancer and he had to take time off from volunteering. On Oct. 3, his wife Diane called the Habitat staff to let them know that Jack had lost his battle to cancer. "Jack will be greatly missed as a volunteer and even more as the wonderful man he was," said Boyer.
Jack was a retired financial accountant who loved reading, fishing and spending time with his wife, children and two grandchildren, Liam and Kyliegh. A retired Vietnam vet with the Marine Corps, Jack was buried at Miramar National Cemetery with full military honors.
