Obvious and not-so-obvious
Nils Rosdahl | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 13 years, 1 month AGO
The business location at 3535 N. Government Way (across from Sunset Animal Hospital) had been a combination of Jennifer's CDA cars and The Repo Shack. But with these places gone, last week that location became the home of three businesses that all moved from the 1500 block of Government Way (north of St. Vincent de Paul's thrift store).
The most obvious is Northland Motors with its used car and truck lot right off the street.
Owner Dennis Ralston has from 20 to 30 used vehicles "for reasonable prices." In the used car business since 1995, his hours at the new location, which offers more room, are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone 665-1234. Check www.northlandmotors.net.
U-Haul, All American Signs combine
The most obvious business behind Northland Motors is Chris Doyle's U-Haul truck and trailer rental business.
Offering rigs from 12 to 26 feet, Doyle purchased the business last year. Phone 765-9321.
The www.uhaul.com website is quite interesting. The business began in 1945 when a military couple discharged after World War II needed to move their stuff from Los Angeles to Portland. The lack of rigs to do this convinced them to start the company that now has 15,950 (!) locations in all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces. The headquarters is in Phoenix.
Although Doyle's U-Haul business is the most obvious, his All American Signs is more interesting.
The large building behind Northland Motors has everything needed to make signs of any size of almost any material. They can range from simple decals up to signs of 12 by 15 feet to be put on any surface.
Phone Doyle at 765-9321.
Rodda Paint to Government-Canfield
The building that formerly housed University Appliance on the east side of the Government Way-Canfield Avenue intersection is now Rodda Paint.
The store's motto is the Five R's - The right people, the right place, the right time, the right color and the right product." Its www.roddapaint.com (pronounced rod-da) describes the business as "the largest paint manufacturer in the Northwest." Founded in 1930, it has 48 stores and 30 independent dealers in the Northwest and California. Its headquarters is in Portland.
In Coeur d'Alene phone 772-6818.
Urban Edge Salon in Hayden
Beauty specialist Tara Kidd has opened Urban Edge Salon and Spa at 2149 W. Hayden Ave.
With walk-ins welcome, Kidd and four associates offer customized hair design and color, hair and eyelash extensions, manicures and pedicures, spa facials, body wraps and waxing.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Phone 719-9263.
Hang on for these tidbits
- A few of the empty spaces on Main Street in Riverstone are being "finished" for occupancy for seasonal businesses such as the kiosks in a mall. Phone Chris Schreiber of Kiemle & Hagood at 770-2593.
- Born Again Classics is a new classic auto dealership just north of IHOP and I-90 on Fourth Street. Phone 582-0577.
- Busy intersections need right-turn lanes. Possibly the most obvious are near the sheriff's building on Dalton Avenue west to Government Way and Highway 95. An emergency vehicle can get stuck behind waiting traffic there.
- Hmm. This week we'll discover who will be the leader in the capitol. When it's a building, the word ends in "tol." When it's a location such as a city (or it's money), it ends in "tal."
- In spelling out numbers, you don't find the letter "A" until "one thousand."
