Chiefs blank Silvertips

SPOKANE - Garret Hughson had 22 saves for his first Western Hockey League shutout as the Spokane Chiefs beat the Everett Silvertips 4-0 on Wednesday night in front of 3,260 at the Spokane Arena.

Spokane improves to 9-1 at home this season.

Mikulas Rimmel scored on a backhander to give Spokane a 1-0 lead after the first period.

After a scoreless second period, Spokane scored again as Conner Chartier tallied his third goal in as many games. Dylan Walchuk scored shorthanded with just under nine minutes remaining and Adam Helewka capped the scoring on an assist from Chartier.

Spokane (13-6-0-0, 26 points) outshot Everett 35-25 and is tied with Tri-City for second place in the U.S. Division and trails Portland by one point for first.

Spokane hosts Kamloops on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
