MINERAL COUNTY - For over a year the office of the Mineral County Clerk and Recorder has been preparing for the election.

On Monday Nov. 5 preparations culminated in the office distributing election materials to seven polling places throughout the county.

Boxes filled with everything a polling place needs, from envelopes for unused ballots to voter guides, were prepared and dropped off at polling places.

"Basically we have to make sure we have what everybody needs," Kasey Schoening said. "We hope that it comes to good use. It is a lot of printing and preparation. We’ve been doing this for a while."

According to Schoening, one of the main goals of the preparation is to ensure that election judges at polling places have all the tools they need to accomplish their job.

"We try to make it easier for everybody," Schoening said.

One of the essential items for polling places is a lock box where filled out ballots go.

Once voting ended on Tuesday, the ballots were placed in the lock box and sealed prior to transport.

"We check the seals to make sure nobody messes with anything," Schoening said. "This is like money."

Upon arrival at the Clerk and Recorders Office, the lock boxes are verified and the office begins to use machines to count ballots.
