Veterans Day

Columbia Falls High School’s National Honor Society will host the annual Veterans Day Assembly in the high school gymnasium on Thursday, Nov. 8, with seating at 10 a.m. Three local veterans will be honored in a special presentation, and the public will recognize veterans from the Montana State Veterans Home who are in attendance. Chamber after-hours

The Columbia Falls Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its after-hours social at the Stonefly Lounge in Coram on Thursday, Nov. 8, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The “pre-holiday party” will feature live blues and soul-ternative music by Erin & The Project, hors d’oeuvres by The Simple Chef, fall cocktails from Glacier Distilling Co. and holiday door prizes.

Turkey bingo

The Ruder Elementary School Parent-Teachers Organization will hold its annual turkey bingo event in the school gymnasium on Friday, Nov. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. The free event gives families the chance to win a turkey and other prizes. Chamber meeting

The Columbia Falls Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its general membership meeting in the North Valley Community Room on Nucleus Avenue on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The guest speaker will be Doug Shanks, from Western Building Center. Toastmasters

The Columbia Falls Speaks Toastmasters Club will hold an open house at Freedom Bank on Monday, Nov. 12, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to introduce Toastmasters to the public. For more information, call Meg Lindberg at 260-6654.

Square dancing

Free beginning square dancing classes for ages 12 and up will be offered by the FastN8ers at the Kalispell Senior Citizen Center, 403 Second Ave. West, on Monday, Nov. 12, at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 752-4964.

Church bazaar

St. Richard’s Catholic Church, in Columbia Falls, will hold its annual bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lunch will be served, with homemade soup, sandwiches and pie, along with large selections of craft items, homemade baked goods and religious articles. Raffle prizes are $500 first, $200 second and $100 third. For more information, call Carol at 871-1734.

Fall bazaar

Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 640 Seventh St. West, will hold its annual fall bazaar, cookie walk and homemade soup and pie luncheon on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Handcrafted items including baby items will be on sale. Christmas cookies will be sold by the pound. Proceeds will benefit mission projects in the Flathead and overseas.

Infusion center

Columbia Falls patients currently traveling to Kalispell for outpatient infusion treatment (injections or intravenous medications) can get their work done at Kalispell Regional Medical Center’s satellite location starting Nov. 8. More than 1,000 Columbia Falls residents have received treatment at KRMC for multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, hydration, antibiotic therapy, blood draws and other needs. The center will not offer blood transfusions or provide cancer treatment. For more information, call 751-6956.

Montana UFOs

The local Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) community group will meet at the Bohemian Grange, on U.S. 93 directly west of Montana Coffee Traders, on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. Joan Bird, author of “Montana UFOs and Extraterrestrials: Extraordinary stories of documented sightings and encounters,” will talk about “Consciousness and UFOs: What’s the Connection?” Bird has a Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Montana and has lived and worked the Flathead for a number of years. A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.

Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
