SUPERIOR - The Superior Bobcat football team came out swinging against Broadview-Lavina on Saturday.
Despite several shaky moments in the second quarter, the Bobcats handled the Pirates and got one step closer to the State C eight-man championship.
In the first quarter, the senior Bobcats took the reigns and controlled the pace of the game.
Quarterback Billy Smith connected with fellow senior Adam Kay on two touchdown strikes for 55 and five yards respectively, putting the Bobcats ahead 12-0 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Smith utilized his other weapons to once again rack up two touchdowns against the Pirates.
His first strike was a five-yard pass to sophomore Wyatt Zylawy. The second was to junior Cole Karow, who went for 72-yards and the touchdown.
Karow was Smith’s favorite target during the game and the junior led the Bobcats with 121-yards receiving.
The Pirates were not out of it yet and at the end of the second quarter scored a touchdown as the final minutes were ticking off the clock.
Broadview-Lavina then recovered an onside kick and quickly raced down the field to bring the game to 28-12 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Pirates kept the pressure on and grabbed another touchdown to put the game at 28-18.
At that point, Superior dug in and took the victory.
Zylawy caught two big passes of 55 and 10 yards from Smith for touchdowns to put the Bobcats up 40-18.
In the fourth quarter a trio of touchdowns put the game in the hands of Superior, who won 60-32.
Smith threw for 375-yards and seven touchdowns and had 92-yards on the ground.
The Bobcats will face off against Drummond at home on Saturday for a shot at the championship game. Kickoff is at 1 pm.
