Veterans Day activities set

COEUR d'ALENE - A number of events and activities are coming up to celebrate Veterans Day, which is Sunday, Nov. 11.
A highlight will be the Veterans Day Paradein Hayden at 10 a.m. Monday. It will run from Hayden Avenue to Honeysuckle Avenue and include a T-34 flyover by Jerry Goggin.
The parade will include the Northern Lakes Fire District, Hayden Meadows Special Chorus, Gold Star Mothers and the Kellogg High School Marine Corps JROTC.
Hayden will also recognize its "Distinguished Veteran" award winner Carl Gidlund during the Veterans Day ceremonies at 11, and a coffee reception at City Hall will follow.

Veterans activities at schools include:
* Lutheran Academy of the Master Christian Academy presents its Veterans Day performance at 9 a.m. Thursday. Students will perform a medley of patriotic songs, the Civil Air Patrol will be presenting the colors, dessert and coffee will be served.
* Hayden Meadows Elementary School, programs at 2:30 and 6:30 p.m., Thursday.
* Post Falls High School, concert, 7 p.m. Thursday,
* American Legion Post 14 presents colors for Coeur d'Alene High School, 8:50 a.m. Friday, starting with a flag raising followed by program in the gym.
* Seltice Elementary School program, 9:15 a.m. Friday.
* Sorensen Magnet School Veterans assembly, 1 p.m. Friday.
* Atlas Elementary program, 2:15 p.m. Friday.
Community Veterans Day events:
* American Legion Post 14, with the support of VFW Post 889 Rifle Squad, will hold its Veterans Day ceremony, at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Third St. bell.
* Post 14 presents colors at North Star Retirement Community, noon Sunday.
* Post Falls Mayor Clay Larkin will dedicate the Pappy Boyington Statue at Pappy Boyington Field in Hayden, 10 a.m. Monday.
Restaurants offering free meals to veterans:
* Texas Roadhouse, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday.
* Denny's, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday.
* Applebee's, all day Sunday.
* Coeur d'Alene Casino, 5 p.m., Thursday
