Edna Marie Martin, 84

Edna Marie Martin, a Coeur d’Alene resident for 60 years, passed away peacefully on Oct. 13, 2012, her 84th birthday, after a great day of celebration with family, friends and flowers. She was born in Fairview, Mont., to Bert and Sara (Kilen) Vickstrom.

She was preceded in death four years ago by her husband of 62 years, Roy Martin. They were married Nov. 5, 1947, in Glendive, Mont., and had two daughters, Ginger Flynn and Lesli Linde.

Mom learned the value of honesty, hard work and cooperation while growing up on a farm with five siblings in eastern Montana. She embraced her family’s work ethic which contributed to the successful operation and reputation of Roy Martin Construction, which she co- owned and worked beside her husband. They were members of the North Idaho Building Contractors Association. Mom contributed to the success of their business with her penchant for home decorating and thoughtful insight for blueprint editing, always wanting to maximize a home’s beauty and versatility. After retiring, they built an apartment complex which they owned and managed until 2003.

Mom enjoyed traveling with her husband in their RV away from the Idaho winters, attending fairs, rodeos and flea markets always making new friends and visiting old ones. She loved to sew, garden, sing and dance, especially to old country western music. Mom had many fond memories of dancing the “jitterbug” with Dad and her family takes solace in the thought that she and Dad are now kicking up a little stardust together in that cosmic honky-tonk. She now has peace.

Surviving family include her daughters, Ginger Flynn (Patrick Flynn) and Lesli Linde; three sisters, Adele Elletson of Havre, Mont., Dorothy Paladichuk and June Paladichuk, of Sidney, Mont.; granddaughters, Tricia Flynn (Eric Ellingsen) and great-grandsons, Max and Alex, of Spokane, Bridget Flynn (Jeff Pilcher) and great-granddaughters, Keelyn and Ryann of Moscow, and Anna Flynn (Joe Angelo) and great-grandkids, Matt and Lindsey of Coeur d’Alene. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Herbert Vickstrom and a sister, Sheryll Vickstrom. Her family and their achievements were her greatest joy.

A memorial service will be held for family and friends at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel.

Memorials may be sent to The Children’s Village, 1350 W. Hanley, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814 or the charity of your choice. Or give someone a hug and kiss in her memory; she so loved such simple things.
