Wittingham sparks Chiefs past Blazers

SPOKANE - Riley Wittingham scored his first Western Hockey League goal 7:30 into the third period to give the Spokane Chiefs the lead for good in a 5-2 win over the Kamloops Blazers in front of 5,242 at the Spokane Arena on Friday night.

Todd Fiddler scored his 12th goal of the season for Spokane on a shorthanded tally late in the first period to tie the game at 1 after the first.

Kamloops took a 2-1 lead early in the second, but Mitch Holmberg scored late in the period to tie it at 2.

Cole Wedman scored his first goal of the season to give Spokane a 4-2 lead and Dylan Walchuk capped the scoring in the final minute for Spokane, which improves to 10-1 at home.

Eric Williams had 30 saves for Spokane (14-6-0-0, 28 points), which trails Portland by one point for first place in the U.S. Division.

Spokane hosts Portland tonight at 7:05 to conclude its six-game homestand.
