Caroline Shipman, 88, passed away peacefully Nov. 13, 2012, in Coeur d’Alene after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was born in Canandaigua, N.Y., on Aug. 23, 1924.

She married her sweetheart of 64 years, Edward Shipman, on April 3, 1948, in New York. They moved to California in 1957 where they raised their four children. In 1988, Ed and Carol retired to Coeur d’Alene and indulged in their love of traveling. Carol enjoyed knitting, crocheting, leatherwork and gardening but her greatest joy was being a wife, mother and grandmother.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur H. Bird and Florence P. Sheridan; and her sister, Gladys Bird. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward Shipman of Hayden; her sons, John Shipman (Kelly) of Battle Ground, Wash., and Kenneth Shipman of Vancouver, Wash.; her daughters, Donna Wood (Mike) of Hayden and Kathrine Severt (Chris) of Gresham, Ore.; her sister, Hazel R. Bird of Manchester, N.Y.; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is loved and will be missed very much.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at English Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Forest Cemetery.
