MATTAWA - A 25-year-old Mattawa man was arrested Saturday night under suspicion of first-degree child rape.

Juan Pablo Juarez, 25, was arrested at the 100 block of East Cooper Street just after 9 p.m. Saturday, sheriff's officials said Monday.

Grant County deputies and EMT crews from Grant County Fire District 8 were dispatched to a location and a woman claimed a child was raped.

Deputies learned that Juarez and the woman had been involved in a domestic violence incident earlier in the evening. She fled to a nearby relative's home for help.

Upon returning, she allegedly discovered evidence of a child being sexually assaulted. At that point she called 9-1-1.

Grant County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Kyle Foreman said that it took three deputies to detain Juarez, who initially refused to leave the residence. Deputies entered the structure and eventually were forced to fire two Taser shots to subdue the subject.

The child - identified as a female under the age of 10 - was transported to a Yakima hospital to undergo surgery for her injuries. A second child, also under the age of 10, was taken to a Yakima hospital for unspecified injuries.

Juarez is currently housed in Grant County Jail under suspicion of the attack. Detectives continue to investigate the incident.
