Camas Creek Yarn offers several opportunities for knitters and felters throughout the month of December.

All classes take place at the store, located at 338 Main St., Kalispell. For more information about any of these classes, stop by the shop, call 755-9276 or visit www.camascreekyarn.com.

Beginning knitting for kids

Dawn Brown teaches this class from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 1. Children age 10 and older (or those capable of the patience required for knitting and waiting for assistance) are welcome to learn the basics of knitting. Brown will teach the youths to cast on, knit, purl and bind off.

The cost is $18; no previous experience is necessary. Children are invited to take more than one beginning knitting class, because learning to knit doesn’t always happen right away.

Spindle spinning for beginners

Kara Basko leads this three-session class Dec. 1, 8 and 15. The class costs $60 and runs from 3 to 5 p.m. all three sessions. No previous experience is necessary.

In this class, learn the basics of spinning on a drop spindle: drafting, plying, finishing and more. The class will reveal the fun of making yarn on one of the world’s oldest textile tools.

All about yarn

Debbie Arnold teaches this class from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 3. Those who have ever felt overwhelmed by the varieties of yarn and confused about matching the right yarn to their projects are invited to take part. The class will provide a foundation on different fibers and their appropriate usage, yarn weights, substituting yarns and matching gauge, colorways and more.

The cost is $25. No previous experience is necessary.

The Magic of Felt: Cobweb scarf or shawl

Paula Rindal teaches this class from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 4.

In this class, felters will use soap, water and bubble wrap to create a beautiful designer scarf. Cost is $35. No previous experience is necessary.

Headband and fingerless mitts

Sue Birky leads this class from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 4. The class covers a quick project that would be excellent for Christmas gift-giving.

Cost is $30. The class is appropriate for beginners.

Beginning top-down socks

Jodie Coston leads this three-session class from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 5, 12 and 19. All techniques knitters need to know will be covered in the class, from using double-pointed needles to turning a heel and the kitchener stitch to seam up the toes.

Cost is $40. The class is for beginners who can cast on, knit, purl and bind off.
