NIC coaches to recap fall,

preview winter sports

COEUR d'ALENE - North Idaho College instructor Cal DeHaas and some of the school's coaches will be the featured speakers at the next booster club luncheon next Tuesday at The Coeur d'Alene Resort.

DeHaas coaches youth basketball and organized the Special Needs basketball games at NIC last month. In addition, volleyball coach Kandice Gregorak will recap the NJCAA tournament where the Cardinals finished eighth.

Other coaches will give updates on recent basketball games and wrestling tournaments, with previews of the upcoming Cardinal/Bigfoot Classic basketball tournament and Winter Cardnival on Dec. 6.

The public is welcome to attend. The cost of lunch is not covered.

Many EWU players named to

All-Big Sky football team

Junior wide receiver Brandon Kaufman headlines a group of 22 Eastern Washington football players selected to the All-Big Sky Conference team as selected by the league's head coaches.

Kaufman was joined on the first team by junior cornerback T.J. Lee, a repeat first team selection from 2011. The others on the first team this season were senior kicker Jimmy Pavel, inside linebacker Ronnie Hamlin and senior offensive tackle Will Post, who earned honorable mention in 2011.

Second-team selections included sixth-year outside linebacker Zach Johnson, who was a second-team choice in 2010 and honorable mention as a freshman in 2008. Junior offensive guard Steven Forgette, an honorable mention selection a year ago, also earned second-team honors this season, as well as senior defensive end Jerry Ceja and safety Allen Brown.

NIC coaches, players

to hold Christmas camp

COEUR d'ALENE - Boys and girls of all ages are invited to attend the 2012 North Idaho College Christmas Basketball camp, taught by NIC coaches and players Jan. 2-4.

Participants, who will learn fundamental skills and individual drills, can choose from either a morning session from 9 a.m. to noon each day for $65 or an all-day session, which includes more one-on-one instruction for $95.

All instruction will be at Christianson Gym.

Space is limited and deadline is Dec. 31.

Winter CARDnival, auction

to be held on Dec. 6

COEUR d'ALENE - The North Idaho College Booster Club Winter CARDnival and auction will be Dec. 6 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Best Western-Coeur d'Alene Inn, located at 506 W. Appleway Ave.

Tickets are $30 each or $225 for a table of eight. The social hours, games and silent auction begin at 5:30, with dinner at 6:30. The silent auction begins to close at 7:15 and the live auction at 7:30 p.m.
