Berta May O'Donnell, 86

Berta May O’Donnell, 86, passed away Nov. 20, 2012, in Rathdrum. Berta Maye O’Donnell was born to Berta Mary and Revern Harold Brawley on April 19, 1926, in Bokoshe, Okla.

She married Carmon O’Donnell of Stillwater, Okla., in 1964. They did farming in the Mehan area. There they were joined by their children Teresa Smith and Kyle O’Donnell. Berta has one granddaughter, Katrina Murillo and a great-grandson, Erick Murillo.

Berta Maye grew up in Western Oklahoma as the daughter of a Methodist minister. She graduated from Helena, Okla. She worked for Sunday Oil Company in Tulsa, Okla. In 1962, Berta and her mother returned to continue their education. Her mother earned a master’s degree and Berta Maye her B.S.

Berta Maye filled her life in service to the Lord in all the churches that she belonged to. Across the states they lived in she made numerous friends that have remained with her to this day. She will be singing with the angels in heaven now.

Berta became an involved citizen of Rathdrum. She and her husband believed to make a difference by being involved in government on all levels.

She enjoyed life to the fullest and nothing could stand in her way. She loved playing cards with friends and family, watching sports, spending time with family especially her great-grandson Erick, and serving her community. She was always looking out for others in need and would always lend a helping hand.

She joins her husband and the love of her life, Carmon, at Heaven’s door.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carmon O’Donnell; her sister, Leota June Winchester and her brother, Glen Brawley.

She is survived by her children, Teresa Smith (Jeff) of Post Falls, Kyle O’Donnell of Rathdrum and Mike Polk; granddaughter Katrina Murillo; great-grandson Erick Murillo; sister Wanda Jean Haskins of Hennessey, Okla.; brothers-in-law, Gary O’Donnell of Stillwater, Okla., and Carl O’Donnell of Shawnee, Okla.; sister-in-law Mildred Caldwell of Stillwater; her favorite niece, Katie Metz of Coeur d’Alene; as well as numerous other family members and a host of friends.

A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene.
