This week, I have "8 Questions, Choosing a Personal Trainer" for Josh Queen. Josh Queen has been a trainer for the last eight years. In those eight years, Josh has changed and given many people a new chance at life.

His passion has always been to help others and make a difference. In his words "There is no greater gift than to see the joy you bring to a person when you make a difference in their life."

Josh and his wife, Valerie, started a program where they donate time to helping those people in our community who have no money, who are obese and feel like they have no hope.

They teach them nutrition and train them in a class setting where they not only change their life, but make new friends too. Their program is called "Robbie Welbourn Save A Life Project."

Q. Josh, what's the first thing a person should look for when evaluating which Certified Personal Trainer they should use?

A. The trainer's history with their past clients. By viewing any before and after pictures as well as testimonials that past clients have written. I find the best way to know if they can help you is seeing that they have been successful changing others. Just because a person is a Certified Personal Trainer doesn't mean they are good at it.

Q. How important is it that personal trainers have an education, certifications or qualifications to be a trainer?

A. It is very important. Being certified means you know the human body and how it works. This should prevent injuries from the trainer.

Q. Why should someone consider using a trainer? Shouldn't most people be able to train themselves?

A. There are a lot of reasons you should use a Trainer:

1. Trainers will know how to build a program that fits your goals and needs.

2. Accountable to your trainer.

3. A trainer can help to work with and/or around your injuries.

People have a hard time pushing themselves to failure. Most do not have the knowledge to diet or exercise correctly.

Q. Can a personal trainer truly adapt programs that fit almost anyone's level of health and fitness?

A. Yes, there are trainers who have the knowhow and experience to be able to adapt, but there are also many trainers out there who are not able to. That is why you need to research your trainer's history of past clientele.

Q. Are there people who present as un-trainable?

A. No, we believe that if anyone has a will to change and get fitness in his or her life, then we can help them.

Q. Do all certified personal trainers consider nutrition an important aspect of their program?

A. I believe most of them do understand it's an important piece of training, but also most of them are lacking the knowhow to build a nutrition plan, teach it and babysit a client's nutrition day in and day out.

Q. What is the No. 1 mistake a person makes when starting a fitness program?

A. They all want a quick fix without the lifestyle change.

Q. What is the one piece of health and fitness advice you give to all your clients that benefits them the most?

A. Stay Active!

Josh and Valerie own "The Gym" in Coeur d'Alene. They do one-on-one personal training and nutrition counseling.
