Those who have been involved in mosaic classes at Stumptown Art Studio are invited to help work on the next portion of the Windows on Whitefish project this month.

The public art project, which Stumptown Art Studio launched in January, involves the creation of a series of large mosaic murals that will be installed on the exterior wall of the Latitude 48 building in downtown Whitefish. The murals depict the mountains in each of the four season and seek to capture the essence of Whitefish.

The first mural, Spring, was unveiled in September, and now work on the second panel, Summer, is under way.

Deb Stika, Windows on Whitefish’s artistic director, has developed the images that will be used in the murals and is leading sessions in the art of mosaic making.

Community members are invited to take a $65 mosaic class with Stika, in which they will learn the basics of mosaic to create a fish. After taking the class, community members are welcome to attend any of the free sessions to work on the actual 6- by 9-foot murals.

Those sessions will be held Dec. 6, 12 and 13. Call the studio for times and details.

Mosaic fish classes will be offered from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 3 and from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 8. Space is limited, and preregistration is required.

All classes and sessions will be held in the Coldwell Banker Building, 105 Baker Ave., Whitefish.

For additional information, call the studio at 862-5929.
