Williams has solid frosh year

Former Columbia Falls standout runner Derrick Williams is doing well as a freshman at the college level. Williams took 117th at the NAIA Cross-Country Championships in Vancouver, Wash., on Nov. 17.
Williams runs for Carroll College, in Helena.
His time was a respectable 26:17, pacing him at 5:18 per mile.
John Gilbertson, of the Master’s College in Santa Clarita, Calif., was the winner of the race, posting a time of 23:46.
College cross-country races are longer than in high school, where Williams took a state title.
A college race is 8 kilometers long, or just under five miles. High school races are 5 kilometers long.
One week earlier, Williams took fifth in the Frontier Conference Championships with a time of 26:52.8 to help Carroll win the conference title.
