Bernice I. Gottschalk, 95

Bernice I. Gottschalk, 95, resident of Coeur d’Alene, died on Nov. 27, 2012, at Coeur d’Alene Homes.

Bernice “Bea” was born Dec. 12, 1916, in Howard, S.D., to Johanna and Rasmus Raad. Her childhood was spent in Minnesota and that is where she had her education. Later she moved to Chicago, Ill., and was employed at Moody Bible Institute for 21 years, where she worked as a supervisor of the Moody Monthly Magazine. She returned to Ortonville, Minn., where she owned and operated a Gift Shop. While in Minnesota she met and married Earl R. Wendland, but after less than three years he passed away from a heart attack. After Earl’s death, Bea moved to Coeur d’Alene, where she met William H. Flook and they were married June 8, 1974. In October 1994 he preceded her in death. On Aug. 1, 1997, Bea married William Ben Gottschalk who also preceded her in death in October 1998.

Bea is survived by four stepsons, Ron Gottschalk, Gary Gottschalk and Bill Gottschalk, all of California, and William A. Flook of Vancouver, Wash.; stepdaughter Dawn Simpson of Idaho; and several grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Lillian Washburn of Coeur d’Alene and one brother, Clifford Raad of Des Plaines, Ill.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Clara MacIntosh of Canada, Rose Nolling of Ortonville, Minn., and Eleanor McMurray of Moravian Falls, N.C.; one brother, John Raad of Winston Salem, N.C.; two stepsons, Greg Flook of Rathdrum and Monte Flook of Kamiak; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bernice was a member of the 1st Assembly of God Church in Coeur d’Alene. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, sewing and quilting.

A visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Lake City Community Church, 6000 N. Ramsey Road, Coeur d’Alene. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, also at Lake City Community Church, with Pastor Ken Smith officiating. A potluck reception will follow the service at the church. Please bring a dish to share at the potluck reception. Bernice will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
