Five finalists for Idaho

football coach named

From wire and local reports

MOSCOW - Officials for the University of Idaho will interview Arkansas offensive coordinator Paul Petrino and Central Washington head coach Blaine Bennett for their vacant head coaching job.

The Spokesman-Review reported Thursday that Petrino and Bennett are two of five finalists for the job. The other finalists are San Jose State offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren, Wyoming defensive coordinator Chris Tormey and Idaho interim coach Jason Gesser.

Each finalist either played or has coached in Moscow.

Paul Petrino is the brother of former Arkansas and Atlanta Falcons coach Bobby Petrino. He was an offensive and special teams assistant at Idaho from 1992-1994. Paul Petrino played at NAIA Carroll College in Helena, Mont.

Bennett was a quarterback at Idaho in the mid-1980s and served as the Vandals' wide receivers coach in 1991.

Tormey coached the Vandals from 1995-99, guiding Idaho to the Humanitarian Bowl title in 1998. The Gonzaga Prep grad also played at Idaho, and was a Vandal assistant coach.

Lindgren played quarterback at Idaho from 2001-03, and coached at University of Redlands and Northern Arizona before moving to San Jose State this season.

Ault: Nevada-Boise State rivalry probably nearing end

RENO, Nev. (AP) - Nevada football coach Chris Ault said Saturday's season finale against Boise State will probably be the last game between the long-time rivals.

The Broncos beat the Wolf Pack 17-10 the first time they played in 1971 in the Big Sky Conference and lead the all-time series 25-13. The two competed in the Big West and Western Athletic conferences before making the jump to the Mountain West.

Boise State moves to the Big East next year and Ault said that means the rivalry has probably run its course. He told the Reno Gazette-Journal the Wolf Pack have a number of teams they'd like to play and already have filled most of their schedule the next three years.

Nevada's all-time winningest coach has an overall record of 8-17 against Boise, his worst against anyone. Nevada upset the Broncos two years ago in Reno.
