ROYAL CITY - Firefighters from Royal Slope fire stations responded to a structure fire late Thursday night and another early Friday morning.
The first fire was put out by an occupant before firefighters arrived, and damage was limited. The second resulted in a total loss.
The first fire damaged a 5th-wheel travel trailer at 7788 Road F SE that was being used as a residence. The daughter and care-giver of the owner got her father out and then used a garden house to put the fire out.
"She thought to close the door and then poured water in through a window," Grant County Fire Districts Nos. 10-11 Brian Evans. "We were able to make sure it was out and investigate."
The alarm was received at 10 p.m. Five firefighters from districts 10 and 11 responded. They were on site, not far from the Mardon Resort area, about two hours.
Evans said damage to the trailer was about $3,500. With a few repairs, he said, it will be inhabitable.
The second fire call came in at about 2 a.m. It involved a homestead house and a single-wide mobile home at 11901 Road M SW, about five miles west of Royal City, that were being used for storage.
Both structures were destroyed, and Evans estimated total value at $15,000. Ten firefighters responded from the Royal City and Beverly stations. Three more came from the Frenchman Hill and George stations of district No. 3.
Evans said firefighters were on that call until 7 a.m.
