The Columbia Falls girls soccer team blanked conference foe Whitefish 2-0 at home on Sept. 29 to secure the Northern Class A title for the second year in a row.

Danielle Delventhal scored a goal 27 minutes into the match to put the Wildkats up 1-0, and Haley Purdy knocked in an insurance goal 12 minutes into the second half to put the Kats up 2-0.

Purdy also assisted Delventhal on the first goal.

Kat keeper Kira Kamrud had a nice game, with four saves to secure the victory.

Holding the conference title means that so long as the Kats win, all their playoff games will be played at home.

The Kats have two more regular season games left this week — Bigfork on Tuesday after presstime and Polson at home Saturday at 1 p.m.

Coach Greg Trenerry was pleased with the girls’ performance.

“They went out and played two good halves,” he said. “They kept their shape, won balls, and the defense was very solid.”

The girls are now 8-1-1.

Their lone loss was the season opener to Billings Central. Since then, they’re playing much better as a team, and the offense and defense have both improved.
