PLAINS – A truck crashed into a ditch Friday afternoon around 12:30 p.m. on Highway 28, across the street from the Subway restaurant.

A witness stated that the driver had been driving 35 m.p.h. going south on Highway 28 from Hot Springs.

The driver then turned east on Highway 200 and hit the guardrail. From there the driver curved through the Subway parking lot and ran straight across Highway 28 and into the ditch.

Plains Ambulance EMT said that the driver was diabetic and was experiencing low blood sugar, his levels registering at 44 at one point.

The EMT explained that when blood sugar gets that low, a person could get very confused.

The driver suffered no injuries and was not transported.
