Kichton's 5 points lift Chiefs past Victoria

SPOKANE - Defenseman Brenden Kichton scored his first two goals of the season and added three assists for a career-high five points to lead the Spokane Chiefs past the Victoria Royals 5-3 in Western Hockey League play Friday night in front of 4,617 at the Spokane Arena.
Mitch Holmberg also scored twice and Mike Aviani added a goal for Spokane (3-1-0-0, 6 points), which outshot Victoria 31-27. Holmberg now has a league-leading seven goals in four games.
Eric Williams recorded 24 saves for the Chiefs, who host the Lethbridge Hurricanes tonight at 7.
* Earlier Friday, the Chiefs traded 20-year-old defenseman Davis Vandane to the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for a conditional draft pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Vandane, a native of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, has appeared in 123 WHL games, recording three goals and 40 assists along with 58 penalty minutes.
The move leaves the Chiefs with defenseman Brenden Kichton and forwards Blake Gal and Dylan Walchuk as their 20-year-olds.
They also released goaltender Mac Engel, who is awaiting a trade to another WHL team.
Engel went 42-28-3-4 in 88 career appearances. In 2011-12, Engel went 28-19-1-3, with his 28 wins 10th in the league.
Spokane has 25 players on the active roster, with two goalies, eight defensemen and 15 forwards.
