Local candidates for Senate District 3 and House Districts 5, 6, 9 and 10 will appear in an election forum at the Flathead Valley Community College’s Arts and Technology Building on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.

U.S. Senate candidates Jon Tester, the Democratic incumbent, Denny Rehbery, the Republican House representative, and Libertarian candidate Dan Cox will debate at the same location on Sunday, Oct. 14. Limited tickets to that debate have already been awarded.

Candidates for the two Flathead County Commissioner positions will appear at a forum at the same location on Tuesday, Oct. 23.

A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.

Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
