SPOKANE - Mitch Holmberg scored on a 2-on-1 break in the first period for his league-leading seventh goal of the season, and the Spokane Chiefs went on to defeat the Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-2 on Saturday in a Western Hockey League game in front of 5,342 at the Spokane Arena.

Holmberg opened the scoring and Spokane took a 3-0 lead on back-to-back power-play goals by Todd Fiddler and Collin Valcourt, who scored in his second straight game.

Lethbridge scored 9 seconds after Valcourt's goal to make it 3-1 after the first period and scored a short-handed goal in to cut the deficit to 3-2 after the second.

Spokane sealed the win at the 15:38 mark in the third as Post Falls native Tanner Mort scored on an assist from Fiddler.

Eric Williams had 27 saves for Spokane (4-1-0-0, 8 points), which plays at Kelowna on Wednesday.
