'Jacks, Badgers to play for boys title

RATHDRUM - Thomas Cook assisted Brett Dickman in the 15th minute and went on to score two goals as the St. Maries Lumberjacks beat the Priest River Spartans 6-0 in a 3A District 1-2 tournament semifinal match Saturday at Rotary Field.

St. Maries (10-6-1) outshot Priest River (0-9) 22-0 and advanced to face Bonners Ferry on Thursday for the district championship at Rotary Field.

"The boys played well and we look forward to playing Bonners Ferry," St. Maries coach Chris Renaldo said. "We've been preparing for them all year."

Alex Irujo and Michael Taylor had six saves each for Priest River.

RATHDRUM - Victor Mendez recorded a hat trick for the top-seeded Badgers in a victory over the fourth-seeded Maniacs in the 3A District 1-2 tournament at Rotary Field.

It was all in the family for the Badgers, who saw Victor and Jesus Mendez both score and Jake Tremble set up Keaton Tremble for a goal in the 22nd minute.

Bonners Ferry will face St. Maries in the championship game on Thursday.

"We played real well and our ball movement was great," Bonners Ferry coach Ed Moe said. "I think we're peaking right now and hopefully can play well vs. St. Maries."

RATHDRUM - Emily Osborne-Moss had two assists and Katie Baxter recorded a hat trick as the Panthers defeated the sixth-seeded Maniacs in the 3A District 1-2 tournament at Rotary Field.

Abby Bartlett added two goals for third-seeded Coeur d'Alene Charter (8-8-1), which faces second-seeded Timberlake (8-4-2) on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a semifinal match at Rotary Field.

"We started slow, but turned it on and I'm proud of them," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach David Baxter said. "I'd like to tip my hat to Orofino. They have a small roster and long distance to travel, but they were great competition."

RATHDRUM - Sarah Gibbs recorded a hat trick for the fourth-seeded Wildcats in a shutout win over the fifth-seeded Spartans in the 3A District 1-2 tournament at Rotary Field.

Jessi Gibbons had two goals and Trista Sheppard two assists for Kellogg (7-6-1), which faces Bonners Ferry in a semifinal match Tuesday.

"You're always happy to get away with a win and continue the season," Kellogg coach Steve Mills said. "We were flat for some portions of the game though and if we don't fix it before the next round it will be mighty tough to get through."

Priest River finishes the season 1-13.
