Columbia Falls History club meets

The Columbia Falls Historical Society will meet at the Montana Veterans Home Chapel, a new location, on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in the history of Columbia Falls and the surrounding area is invited to attend. Historical Society calendars are available at Super 1 Foods and Glacier Bank in Columbia Falls. Plans are progressing for the first annual Cowboy Christmas Dance to be held at the Veterans Home Chapel. More details will be available soon.

CROP walk for hunger

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and United Methodist Church, of Columbia Falls, will host a CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, Oct. 14, starting with sign-ups in the North Valley Senior Center, on Nucleus Avenue, at 1 p.m. and walking starting at 1:30 p.m. The one, three or five mile walk is a fundraiser for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. Forestry week

The Flathead National Forest, Montana Loggers Association, Montana Wood Products Association, Plum Creek and F.H. Stoltze Land & Lumber Co. will kick off Montana Forest Products Industry Week at the Western Building Center store in Columbia Falls on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be presentations industry and community leaders and local legislators, displays of local forest products and machinery, a free barbecue and giveaways.

Chamber golf tournament

The Columbia Falls Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a nine-hole scramble and after-hours social at Meadow Lake Resort on Thursday, Oct. 11. The scramble will begin at 3 p.m. with a shotgun start. The social will be hosted by ERA Lambros at Meadow Lake, National Parks Realty and Meadow Lake Homeowners Association at the Truby’s restaurant from 5 to 7 p.m. with appetizers and beverages.

Citizens 20th anniversary

Citizens for a Better Flathead will hold its 20th annual meeting with a celebration in Flathead Valley Community College’s Arts & Technology Bldg. on Friday, Oct. 12, from 6-9 p.m. Dinner will be prepared by The Culinary Institute of Montana at FVCC, and dance music will be performed by Andre Floyd and Mood Iguana. The watchdog group champions democratic principles, sustainable solutions, water quality and planning. Tickets are $30 per person until Oct. 8 and $35 after that. For reservations, call 756-8993.

District judge forum

The Glacier Pachyderm Club will host two candidates for Flathead County District Court Judge for Department 3, Heidi Ulbricht and Vanessa Ceravolo, at the Red Lion Inn, in Kalispell, on Friday, Oct. 12, beginning at noon.

Gardening workshop

The Columbia Falls Library Association will host a free fall garden and yard workshop by Pat McGlynn, a master gardner from the Flathead County Extension Office in the Columbia Falls City Council Chambers on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m. The program will be open forum, so bring questions and pictures about winterizing, pruning and mulching.

Women’s Connection

The Columbia Falls Women’s Connection, affiliated with Stonecroft Ministries, will hold their luncheon at the Teakettle Community Hall, on Nucleus Avenue in Columbia Falls, on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 11:30 a.m. Susanne Faubert from Taste This! W. Glacier trustee

The West Glacier Elementary School board of trustees is accepting letters of interest for an seat vacated by Harold Price. The appointee will serve until the May 2013 election, at which point an elected trustee will fill the seat through May 2014. For more information, call 888-5312.
