Farquhar notches more honors
MOSCOW - Idaho senior kicker Trey Farquhar was honored as the Star of the Week for the second time in three weeks by the Lou Groza Place Kicker Award, presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.
The four-year Vandal kicker connected on all four field goal attempts and both PATs in Idaho's 26-18 win over New Mexico State on Saturday - hitting from 55, 53, 39 and 32 yards to move his total to 10 for 11 this season.
The 55 yarder as time expired in the first half tied his career long, and the 53 yarder in the third quarter gave him his ninth career field goal of 50 yards or longer - an Idaho school record.
The Groza Star of the Week honor goes along with his Western Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week award and his College Football Performance Awards National Kicker of the Week honor, also for the second time in three weeks.
Lewis-Clark State men's hoops tabbed fourth in Frontier
The Lewis-Clark State men's basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the Frontier Conference in a preseason poll of league coaches, announced by the league office.
Lewis-Clark State senior forward P.J. Bolte was chosen as a preseason all-conference honoree after leading the Warriors with 14.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game as a junior.
Lewis-Clark State, which finished 16-13 and 5-9 in Frontier Conference play, returns Bolte, guard Donte Archie and forwards Danny Marshall and former Lake City High and NIC standout Nick Fromm. They also added seven junior college transfers, including Petar Joksimovic from NIC.
Westminster received seven of nine first-place votes and 62 points overall.
Lewis-Clark State earned 41 points, behind second place Montana State-Northern and third place Montana Western.
MSU-Northern won the 2011-12 conference tournament and shared the regular season conference championship with Montana Western, which received the other two first place votes.
Carroll was fifth with 40 points, followed by Great Falls and Rocky Mountain. Montana Tech and league newcomer Dickinson State tied for eighth with 12 points.
Westminster senior forward Jake Orchard was the league's preseason Player of the Year.
