RATHDRUM - Ida Jansson scored her second goal of the match in the 76th minute as the second-seeded Timberlake Tigers defeated the third-seeded Coeur d'Alene Charter Panthers 4-3 in a 3A District 1-2 tournament semifinal at Rotary Field on Tuesday.
"It was one of our toughest games we've ever had to play," Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. "In the five years I've been at Timberlake, this was easily one of the toughest games. It could have gone either way. Both teams were very evenly matched."
Timberlake (9-4-2) will face top-seeded Bonners Ferry (11-4-1) in the championship match after the Badgers beat the fourth-seeded Kellogg Wildcats 2-0 in the other semifinal.
Katie Baxter and Magen Daniels had a goal and an assist apiece for Coeur d'Alene Charter, which finishes its first season 8-9-1.
"Our kids came out and played hard," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach David Baxter said. "We played very well. It was a hard fought, physical match and a difficult way to end the season."
"It's very nice to see Charter come in and be as strong as they were for a first-year program," Michael said. "Coach (David) Baxter did a wonderful job and it's nice to have them in our league."
