ROYAL CITY - Royal High scored a goal in each half to defeat Wahluke, 2-1, in girls prep soccer last week.

"It was a good match between two similar teams, but we were able to press Wahluke for the first 60 minutes and had moments where we passed the ball well and showed that we are improving," coach Jens Jensen said.

The first goal was from a converted penalty kick in the first half, and the second came in the second half after a nice passing move opened space for a slotted ball to be hammered home.

Wahluke scored in the 49th minuted to make it 2-1 from a cross put into the center. The Royal keeper was unable to hold it, and it deflected to a Wahluke attacker in front of the open net.

The teams matched fruitless attacks for the first 27 minutes. At the 27:26 mark Angie Delarosa scored to make it 1-0. Three minutes into the second half, Jessica Hernandez scored.

Wahluke's score was produced by Dalia Martinez.

Royal was the more aggressive team, taking nine shots to four for Wahluke. There were six shots on goal to two. Delarosa and Hernandez had two shots on goal each.

Josefina Arrieta had four saves for Wahluke. Neither Royal goalie had a save.
