Virginia peacefully passed away at Kootenai Medical Center on Oct. 8, 2012. She was born on Aug. 7, 1923, to Daniel D. Wyatt and Christine Marie (Howe) Wyatt in Douglas, Wyo. She attended Northside School in Douglas until her family moved to Pomona, Calif., where she graduated from Pomona High School in 1940.

After high school, Virginia became a registered physical therapist through the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. She worked as an RPT until she met the love of her life, Charles B. “Jack” Scanlon whom she married in 1946. She resumed her career in physical therapy in 1973 until retiring in 1985.

Virginia always liked to be active. She loved to travel and enjoyed all sports — as a participant or spectator. She volunteered at the Coeur d’Alene Hospice Thrift Shop, belonged to the Coeur d’Alene Knit-Wits (knitting beanies and blankets for KMC premature newborns) and T.O.P.S, and was an avid bowler. She was a member of Community United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, C.B. “Jack” Scanlon; her sister, Bonnie Grace (Wyatt) Fuhrman and her daughter, Loretta (Scanlon) Strinden.

She is survived by her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Kent, Sandy and Summer Scanlon (Coeur d’Alene); her grandson, his wife and daughter (Virginia’s great-granddaughter), Mackenzie, Jennifer and Aubrie Miller (Hayden); three nieces, Janet (Fuhrman) Johnson (Claremont, Calif.), Anne Marie (Fuhrman) Petersen (Pomona) and Becky (Fuhrman) Karcher (Temecula, Calif.); and many dear friends.

Virginia will be greatly missed by all who loved and cared for her. Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of the final arrangements. Her family will hold a private “celebration of life.” The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice House of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835.
