Timberlake to take on Priest River for district title

RATHDRUM - Sydnie Malloy had 17 assists, 11 digs and six aces as the No. 2 seed Timberlake Tigers defeated the No. 3 Kellogg Wildcats 25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 25-15 in a semifinal match of the 3A District 1 tournament Tuesday night at Lakeland High's Hawk Court.
"I thought we got out to a good start, but kind of let down in the third game and lost our momentum," Timberlake coach Michelle Garwood said. "We got it back in the fourth game. Lexi (Posch) served and hit the ball really well for us and the team played together really well as a whole. Our stat numbers are spread out all around the team, and that's really nice to see."
Posch had 14 kills, nine digs and nine aces, Jenna Hoffman 11 kills, 12 assists, four digs and three aces and Cheyenne Gibson four kills, eight digs and two aces for Timberlake (16-11), which faces top-seeded Priest River (18-7) in the championship match Thursday at 4 p.m.
Timberlake and Priest River split their two meetings in Intermountain League play. The teams tied for the IML title, and Priest River won a coin flip for the No. 1 seed.
Priest River defeated No. 4 seed Bonners Ferry in three games on Tuesday.
Kellogg (8-17) and Bonners Ferry (7-19) will play a loser-out match Thursday at 5:30, with a second-place game to follow at 7. The winner of the second-place match advances to a state 3A play-in match Saturday at McCall.
St. Maries d. Cd'A Charter
MOSCOW - Kathy Epler had 24 assists as the Lumberjacks beat the Panthers 25-15, 25-9, 25-9 in a semifinal match in the 2A District 1-2 tournament at Bear Den.
"In the first game, we started out a little slow and they got ahead by six points," St. Maries coach Missy Asbury said. "But we pulled it together for the rest of the night and played really well throughout the last three games."
Mariah Gladden had 11 kills, three blocks and one ace, Lakin Anxo nine kills and seven digs and Haylee Waddell six digs for St. Maries (17-13), which faces Grangeville (24-12) in the championship match on Thursday at 5 p.m. Grangeville defeated Orofino 14-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-15, 15-11 in the other semifinal.
Coeur d'Alene Charter (2-15) faces Orofino in a loser-out match at 6:30, with that winner advancing to the second-place match at 8 for a berth to a state 2A play-in match on Saturday.
Lakeside d. Wallace
PLUMMER - Analesha George had eight aces and Avery Brown-Sonder had 30 assists as the host Knights defeated the Miners 25-20, 27-25, 24-26, 25-18 in the 1A Division I District 1 championship match.
"We played well and finished very well," Lakeside coach Jan Mitchell said. "Avery had an excellent night and the entire team in general played really well."
Lakeside has won the district title match against Wallace every year since the 1A split into two divisions in 2008.
Ruth Haynes had 12 blocks, Brenna Priozok 12 kills and Talia Hendrickx 16 digs for Lakeside (11-8), which faces the third-place team from the District 2 tournament Saturday at 6 p.m. at St. Maries in a state 1A Division I play-in game.
Emily Nelson had 15 assists, Jordan Browning four kills and four blocks and Shelby Majszak four kills for Wallace, which finishes 2-17.
N.I. Christian d. Genesis Prep
HAYDEN - Ashlynn Batchelor had seven kills and six aces as the Royals beat the Jaguars 25-11, 25-15, 25-16 in a Mountain Christian League match at North Idaho Christian School.
Courtney Lawson had nine assists for North Idaho Christian (10-6, 8-5 MCL), which travels to face Logos in Moscow on Thursday.

North Idaho d. CC Spokane
SPOKANE - The visiting Cardinals, ranked sixth in the NJCAA, defeated the Bigfoot 25-20, 25-14, 25-20 in a nonconference match at Spokane Falls Community College.
No statistics were available for North Idaho College (18-3), which plays host to the College of Southern Idaho on Friday in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
