Violet Lormis, 94
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 12 years, 3 months AGO
Born Violet Vivian Ruth Irene Niskawara on Nov. 17, 1918, to Matt and Senia Niskawara. She passed peacefully in her sleep after a brief battle with Alzheimer’s. Born in Minnesota, raised in Chicago, Ill., she married twice and had three children before she finally met and married James Lormis.
She worked at many different jobs but the ones that she loved and that brought her the most pleasure were clerk for the California Highway Patrol, where she met and married James, a patrol officer for CHP. And then on to becoming dispatcher for The Carlsbad Police Department. They retired early due to James’ health problems.
After much consideration and research they moved to Coeur d’Alene and built a home on Beauty Bay where they lived for approximately 45 years; joined by Violet’s son, William. During which time she served as secretary for the Beauty Bay homeowners association, and co-coordinator for the Rambling Rovers. She loved to stay busy with her many hobbies which included crocheting, beading and fishing. After the death of her husband, Jim, in 2008 she moved in with her son, William, and his family who live in Worley.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Lormis; mother and father, Matt and Senia Niskawara; brother Ray Niskawara; and grandsons, Jeff Rodrigues de Miranda and Michael A. Cunningham.
She is survived by her daughter, Elaine and Pim Rodrigues de Miranda, their sons, Hans and Paul and their wives and children; her estranged daughter, Arlene Jones and her son, Scott Jones, his two children and daughter Angela, also estranged; her son, William Cunningham, his wife Debi, stepdaughter Barbara Russell, daughter Patricia and husband Alan Hensley; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; as well as an extended church family all in the surrounding area.
She was much loved. May she rest in peace in her new heavenly home.
